Company History

1994-

A then 21 year old Aquilla King, starts out in the logging business. He buys timber from private landowners, and begins to harvest the timber with just his chainsaw, a pair of horses and custom made 2-wheeled cart. All of the saw logs are sold to local sawmills, while the low grade logs are taken to pallet mills. At this time he is able to produce approximately 3,000 board feet per day.

1999-

Due to a growing demand, Aquilla decides to build his own sawmill, King's Sawmill. He buys and sets up some basic sawmilling equipment, like a circle saw, and 3-blade edger.

2000-

Looking to branch out a bit, we installed a Morbark wood chipper and began to sell the wood chips.

2002-

We continued to add new products by installing a Mellott Debarker. This allows us to start selling bark mulch.By this time we have 4 employees and production is up to 8,000 board feet per day.

2007-

Jeffrey Liedtka joined our team to buy timber, and oversee all logging operations. In September, a devastating fire destroys the mill.  After a 2 day clean up, and much discussion, the decision is made to build a new state of the art sawmill. More modern equipment is installed, including a Whole Log Metal Detection System, 6’ band saw headrig and a Wood Grinder.

2008-

After much hard work, we are able to open our new sawmill on February 29th.

2011-

We are able to add a mulch manufacturing facility to the mill. We currently supply multiple retail and garden centers, throughout Central Pennsylvania.  The annual production of our sawmill exceeds 4,000,000 board feet. All of the grade lumber is sold to the furniture, cabinet and flooring industries. Our Low-Grade lumber is sold to pallet and railroad tie companies.

2014-

Our mill continues to expand. We have added equipment, personnel, and scales to weigh tractor trailers as they come and go.
